For the Linux Users Out There...

For the Linux Users Out There it seems that the newest version of Red Hat Linux has a note taking program called Tomboy...

"Three Mono-based applications in Fedora Core 5 include Beagle for desktop search, F-Spot for photo management and Tomboy for taking notes."

I wonder how these tools will make learning the law easier?

A Reminder that If Nothing Works No Learning Is Possible

The New York Times had an article on what happens if your computer fails... The Errors Are Fatal, but Maybe There's Hope about what happens when computers fail and one needs to get help. It is a reminder to us all in the age when every student has a laptop that no work can get done when your computer is not working. We must all remember the 11th commandment: thout shall make backups. It might even be a worthwhile goal to have your data saved every night so you can switch to another machine quickly if necessary. Got to go...its time to do a backup...

On Learning the Law...

What a strange thing is this process of learning the law. Having studied graduate education, and business, I have never seen a learning process like that in law school where:

1. All the students use laptops (good) but just Microsoft word to take notes (is this the best product to use for this purpose?). They use chat software to talk with one another in class (good if it is about what is going on in class, bad if not?)

2. Getting into the right law school is supposedly key to learning the law but just as key is using commercial outlines and trusting in Kaplan, Princeton review, Bar/Bari, none of which are connected to your law school. As we speak Bar/Bari is being sued for price fixing. What kind of lesson does that teach?
